Award-Winning Teradici PCoIP® Technology Helps Power the Transition to Remote Collaborative Editing for RPL Customers

BURBANK, CA — March 30, 2021 Remote Picture Labs, the leading provider of remote collaborative post-production solutions for the Hollywood film and television industry, is utilizing award-winning Teradici® Cloud Access Software and PC-over-IP (PCoIP®) technology as key components in its solution for the remote editing of recorded and live television programming. The Teradici technologies are employed to help RPL customers quickly, securely and economically transition from on-premises to remote collaborative editing environments utilizing their preferred post-production tools.

The remote editing solution runs over RPL’s high-performance private cloud. Teradici Cloud Access Software and PCoIP Ultra™ enhancements compress, encrypt and transmit only pixels from virtual workstations on the RPL network to stateless zero clients at the endpoint, so no media is ever downloaded by members of a post-production team. This architecture assures the highest possible content protection and provides the secure infrastructure demanded by Media & Entertainment companies. Equally important, there is no performance or video quality impact for editors and assistant editors, whether they are working in an edit bay, a studio or on a virtual machine at home.

RPL can support between two and four monitors at resolutions up to 4K/UHD. Lossless compression and high throughput provide smooth video playout and sustained performance on both Avid Media Composer® and Adobe Premiere Pro® workstations, even at high frame rates. RPL has employed the technology since March 2020 to allow clients, including ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Fox Sports, to create new programming even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our goal is to provide producers and editors with a remote, collaborative editing solution that is indiscernible from that of a traditional edit bay, and Teradici helps us achieve that,” said Noah Gusdorff, co-founder of Remote Picture Labs. “Their technologies let us deliver the best-of-breed, low-latency experience our clients expect. We’ve proven remote editing to be a safe, money-saving alternative for film and television post production, and foresee its use as a hybrid, collaborative on-premises/at-home solution as film and television production returns to some form of normalcy.”

Teradici PCoIP technology was honored with a 2020 Engineering Emmy® Award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development from the Television Academy. “Working with Remote Picture Labs has played a key role in helping us refine the PCoIP protocol to meet the exacting requirements of our joint customers in the media industry,” said Paul Austin, Director, Global Channels at Teradici. “The Engineering Emmy is a testament to the success we’ve achieved, and we’re grateful to Remote Picture Labs for its support and inspiration.”

About Remote Picture Labs
